  • Thu June 25th NEWBURYWeekly News (Printers) Limited marked the expansion of its printing business last Thursday with the launch ofadditional press facilities.
  • The independently-owned, family company celebrated the latest £4m investment in its business by inviting one of its distinguished contract print clients – Sir Ray Tindle, of the Tindle Newspaper Group – to launch the enhanced facility before an audience ofpress room staff, colleagues and corporate clients.
  • The recently completed works at the press facility enhances the existing Goss Universal press with the addition of two Uniliner, double-width units and a second folder. The printing capacity of the Newbury operation has now increased from 96 tabloid pages to 160 tabloid pages, all in full colour. The second folder enables Newbury Weekly News (Printers) Limited to run the installation as two distinct presses, thereby producing two separate publications simultaneously. It also makes available greater capacity at key times of the production week to satisfy increasing demand for mid-week print slots.
  • The Schur mailroom has also been enhanced to accommodate the extended press' extra capacity. The months-long installation project was undertaken without extending the footprint of the existing building at Newspaper House, in FaradayRoad, Newbury, while maintaining normal production for clients throughout.
  • The Newbury work features the first Goss Uniliner units to be installed in the UK and the chairman of the Newbury company, Jeremy Willis, said that the work represents the company’s firm commitment to its future as newspaper printers, which already has an established customer base of blue-chip, independent publishers operating throughout the UK.
  • The project was brought to completion largely by the same team who worked on the installation of the replacement £5m press at Newbury in 2005.Among them were Kennet Electrics, Gotelee Orchard-Lisle and Vision Interiors.
  • Managing director Adrian Martin said: “This latest work demonstrates our unshakeable belief in our future as contract printers, the acknowledged expertise we have in Newbury, our quality, competitiveness and location all serve to provide a first class service for our clients old and new.”Press Upgrade Follow the progress of the installtion of our two new double width towers. ...more
